Checkout Famous Paris Movie Locations With SeaFrance

July 23, 2011 · Filed Under See France Tips, Trips to France · Comment

One of the best things about SeaFrance Ferries Dover Calais is it gets you to quickly and inexpensively to Paris, where once you reach, feels like every time you turn a corner, you are on a new movie set, given the popularity of movies which have filmed in the city of love.

In recent memory Amélie has become the most famous movie to come out of Paris, with Audrey Tautou playing the main protagonist Amélie Poulin, whom during the course of the film, ends up visiting some of Paris’s most beautiful spots, with little being altered for the movie.

Visiting some of those spots is quite an easy thing to do you could start with the real life grocery owned by her antagonist in the movie Monsieur Collignon, which is located at the des Abbesses, or you could chill out at the famous café where our heroine works, which is the Café des Deux Moulins, when you get there, be sure to try its world famous Amélie crème brulee

If you prefer something a little more action packed, then perhaps following in Matt Damon’s footsteps during the journey he took in Paris during the Bourne Identity may be much more likely, as Jason Bourne seeking to find out who he is, steps out in to the night and comes to terms with his dark past and the people who are now out to get him.

Jason Bourne’s first night in Paris with his love interest Marie was spent sleeping in their car, so you might want to avoid doing that, but the car itself was parker on the Left Bank of the Quai de la Tournelle, which is well worth visiting, and perhaps a more comfortable hotel is more appropriate. The next day Bourne dropped in to his apartment, at 104 rue du Jardin, where the trouble starts. In real life the apartment is 104 Avenue Kléber, just near the Metro Trocadero.

There are some great Paris scenes in the movie, and since its so easy and inexpensive, why not hop on SeaFrance Ferries Dover Calais and check these movie locations out for yourself.

Head To France On SeaFrance For Fantastic Fishing

July 19, 2011 · Filed Under See France Tips, Trips to France · Comment

There are an astonishing number of Britons willing to cross the Channel with SeaFrance Ferries Dover Calais to do some continental carp fishing every year, which is surprising given the UK waters themselves are fairly rich in variety.

The advantage that France has is its milder weather, add to the fact that is also has a large number of lakes which favour carp growth.

Carp fishing in France is great simply because the average amateur fisherman in France is not after carp when baiting his hook. Many lakes that had a wide variety of species years ago are practically carp only lakes. Fisherfolk used to throw back the carp that they caught which has meant that monster carp are out there to be hooked, weighing in at a whopping 27 kilograms.

There are many places in France that you can fish, with the cheapest way to do so being at a public lake. Throughout the country thousands of public lakes exist most of which are stocked fully with carp. You simply need to purchase a license and you are off and away.

Privately owned lakes are where you will find some of the best fishing. France has a number of privately owned lakes that are also home to resorts that offer very comfortable accommodation, ranging from the run down caravan, to luxury hotels. The price of fishing at private lakes can be quite high, but it certainly is worth it.

The other option is fishing at a Privately Administered Public Lake, where the administration of a public lake has been handed over to a private group.

If you are an avid fisherman, why not hop on SeaFrance Ferries Dover Calais and check out the carp fishing in France, it’s an inexpensive way to satisfy your passion.

July 17, 2011 · Filed Under See France Tips, Trips to France · Comment

It’s been and gone already, but we Spring really is the best time to visit France with SeaFrance Ferries Dover Calais.

The French eagerly anticipate the arrival of Spring, despite the sky remaining a little grey and bleak, as the temperature begins to warm, so does the atmosphere and magically the dresses begin to change. Scarves begin to fall to lower levels, and if you happen to be really lucky, there may even be a few nice legs to glance at politely.

The spring season in France lasts from the end of March to the end of June. So SeaFrance Ferries Dover Calais has compiled a guide to what is best in each of those months, whether it’s a sunny warm day, or a snowy cold day, whether you happen to be in the north fighting a chill, or in the south and hanging out in the mildly cool weather.

April in France
Arguably the best month to visit the country, everything is flowery and green, and the country displays a sense of vibrancy and lushness. This is the season for horseback riding, hiking and all sorts of other outdoor activities. Easter is celebrated in April, and Paris in the springtime is simply fantastic, the weather throughout France is relatively mild, though you may see some spring showers, or experience an early evening chill on occasion, however the weather is both calm and inviting

May in France
Unsurprisingly May is a little warmer than the previous month, and many prefer visiting France with SeaFrance Ferries Dover Calais during this time specifically because of the temperature change. Though it is a little warmer, the weather remains comfortable and mild. The streets are increasingly crowded, and one has to keep reminding themselves that summertime has yet to arrive. There are lots of events and festivals throughout the month of May, the most famous of them all is the Cannes Film Festival, which attracts celebrities and commoners alike from around the world. If You Want To Learn French Head Over To France With SeaFrance Ferries

July 15, 2011 · Filed Under See France Tips, Trips to France · Comment

If you have always wanted to learn French, then why not hop on SeaFrance Ferries Dover Calais and head over there this summer and learn it in the very country whose language it is. Learning the language of love in France comes with many advantages, the main one being that you learn to speak the language using an authentic French accent.

It takes little more common sense to know that to learn French its best done in France.

Whilst there may be many great language courses available all over the world it is much better to learn the language the way it is spoken by the people who speak it in the way it was intended. So visiting France to learn to speak French the way the French themselves do, gives you a massive advantage over learning to speak the language anywhere else.

Not only will you learn the language in its country of origin, but it gives one the ability to immerse themselves in the culture and history of the country. You get to eat French food and learn the terms that people actually use when they order their food in a restaurant, and not just what they say in books as being correct punctuation and grammar.

Since it is so easy to get there with SeaFrance Ferries Dover Calais, the choice of staying either a week or the rest of your life is entirely up to you. The only real problem from learning French in France is that there are many different dialects in the country, all of which come with their own vocabulary, and is not so simple as merely a different accent.

By this we don’t not mean simply the difference between the way French is spoken in Canada compared with Africa, but languages in France spoke like Limousin, Gascon, Lorrain and others which are almost completely different to that of “classical” French.

SeaFrance Guide To History Of Bordeaux Wine

July 5, 2011 · Filed Under See France Destination Guides, Trips to France · Comment

If you are planning to visit Bordeaux this summer with SeaFrance Ferries Dover Calais, and you know little about the wines of the region, then here is a quick and easy guide to the history Bordeaux wines.

Bordeaux wines have a number of different tastes, which are largely the result of the different approaches each vineyard has to growing and making of wine, as well as the land the grapes are grown.

The following grapes are what produce the majority of the wines in the area; Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Carmenere, Malbec, Sauvignon, Semillon, Muscadle, Ungi Blanc, Merlot Blanc and Colombard.

Bordeaux has been a wine making region since ancient times, having been brought to the region by Roman traders helped by trade during the first century between the British Isles and Europe.

The Bordeaux wine industry however only really took off during the 13th century, when the King of France seized La Rochelle Port, which was the port being used for export to the British Isles. Once control had been established the French monarch extended tax privileges to merchants from Bordeaux, and vines began to be planted with great vengeance.

During that period, wine was mainly made by mixing the juice from both black and white grapes, resulting in a clear mixture called Claret. In the sixteenth century vineyards began to look how they do today, with the vines planted along rows.

In the Seventeenth century, Dutch businessmen began arriving, changing the way business was done, and introducing new drinks such as tea and coffee, and encouraging the production of sweet red and white wines. This new taste of wine began to offer competition to the Gascon Claret, resulting in the Pontac family walking down a new road, developing land and taking pride in their aged wines.

So that is the SeaFrance Ferries Dover Calais guide to history of wine making in Bordeaux. If you have not sorted out your summer vacation, France is cheap and easy to get to with SeaFrance Ferries Dover Calais, so hop on board and drive down to Bordeaux and have a fantastic wine tasting holiday.
