If you are feeling the pain of the economic slowdown in the UK, then one option for a cost effective vacation is a camping holiday in France. There are a large number of camping sites in the country ranging from the inexpensively basic to luxury.

One of the most popular destinations for a camping holiday in France is the Alps which offer stunning scenery including beautiful lakes and snow capped mountains. One thing worth doing is taking a ride on the highest cable car ride in the world in Chamonix.

The Parc National des Ecrins located in the Alps is the largest national park in France and is famous for its natural beauty. There are lots of things to do here, everything from mountain climbing or walking in the hills. You can even go jet skiing on the Lac de Bourget. If you would like to camp here, one of the better sites is Camping la Serraz, which is just ten minutes walking distance away from Annecy Lake.

Eastern France is also quite popular with those looking for a camping holiday. Jura is just six hours driving distance away from Calais and can be reached from Paris in less than four hours. The Jura Mountains are excellent for those wanting to participate in winter sports, and during the summer they offer an attractive option for climbing. The border with Switzerland is very close, with Bern less than two hours drive away. The area is imbibed with a Swiss flavor which is reflected by the architecture and food.

If you do decide on a camping holiday in the Jura Mountains, then you should make sure you check out the Cascades du Herrison waterfalls. These waterfalls measure two miles and run through some stunning countryside and is simply ideal for a camping holiday in France.
